Veo Bicycles Return to Campustown

Apr 14, 2023 | 8:25 am

24-Hour Customer Service Response Is Available for Bike Sharing

Bike sharing is available in Campustown through Veo.

University bike sharing partner Veo is expected to return 750 bicycles (pedal-assisted and class two e-bikes) to Champaign-Urbana by the end of the month. The company removes its entire local fleet for upkeep when ridership significantly decreases over the winter break.

GEOFENCING OF MOTORIZED BIKES
Riders are reminded that when using motorized rental bikes, such as the Cosmo class two e-bike from Veo, the throttle may not be used on university property, including bike lanes and pathways. GPS tracking will disable the motor in these locations but will continue to allow pedaling. The university is coordinating with Veo to evaluate how the future use of class two e-bikes and the throttle feature can be expanded to specific campus locations while maintaining the highest standards for pedestrian safety across the Urbana campus.

REPORTING AN IMPROPERLY PARKED BICYCLE
If you see an improperly parked Veo bicycle on campus, especially a bike that should be immediately moved because it blocks a sidewalk, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) ramp, facility entrance, curb cut, crosswalk, or driveway, please email uiucops@veoride.com with a picture and exact location of the bike needing to be moved. All Veo bicycles are numbered, which is also helpful when reporting a bike concern. Per the bike-sharing agreement with the university and cities, Veo is responsible for addressing reported issues within three hours during peak times. However, some conditions may necessitate a more rapid response. You may move a bicycle that has fallen over or is misplaced if you can.
