Get bike light sets or register your bicycle at various campus locations.

Bike for the Earth Day - bicyclists riding around the circumference of the world

Celebrate Earth Day on Tuesday, April 22, by riding your bike on campus and picking up a set of lights or registering your bicycle!

The first-ever Bike for Earth Day event, a part of the U. of I.’s Earth Month schedule, will feature three welcoming centers open from 3 to 7 p.m. at:

  • Alma Mater Plaza
  • Hallene Gateway (intersection of Illinois Street and Lincoln Avenue)
  • Activities & Recreation Center (east side driveway)

Bike Light Giveaway

You MUST bring your bicycle to receive a free light set while supplies last. Remember, bike lights are required by Illinois law when riding at night. Volunteers are needed to help assist with installations.

Protecting Your Bike

Anyone registering their bicycle at Bike for Earth Day will receive a complimentary T-shirt. The one-time $10 registration fee will help protect your bicycle by adding it to the 529 Garage national database. You will also receive a 529 Shield (registration tag) to place on your bike for added theft deterrence.

Per the University Bicycle Ordinance, bicycle registration is mandatory for all bicycles parked or operated on campus and owned by students, staff, faculty, university departments, community members, and bike share vendors.
