The Energy Conservation Incentive Program (ECIP) awards began in 2013 to recognize outstanding individual and team efforts that move us closer to reaching our Illinois Climate Action Plan (iCAP) goals.

Over the last fiscal year, campus units, colleges, and departments took extraordinary actions to decrease energy usage. Honorees in the 16 ECIP-winning buildings reduced energy at the greatest level from one fiscal year to the next, avoiding over $400,000 in utility costs through a combination of unique user initiatives and energy conservation improvement projects.

ECIP Award Winners

University Housing’s Wassaja Hall led the Occupant Action group with a 35.8 percent improvement through the collective efforts of staff and residents.

Temple Hoyne Buell Hall finished at the top of the Energy Advancement category with a 42.1 percent improvement percentage, driven by large-scale systems upgrades and service work.

Other winning facilities included the Illini Union Bookstore, Foellinger Auditorium, Robert A. Evers Laboratory, Sidney Lu Mechanical Engineering Building, Animal Sciences Laboratory, and Campus Instructional Facility. You can view the complete list and cost avoidance data on the F&S website.

Join Us at the Award Celebration Event on April 23

Associate Vice Chancellor and Executive Director of Facilities & Services Jeff Angiel will recognize the ECIP winners on Wednesday, April 23, from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at the I Hotel and Illinois Conference Center (1900 S. First Street, Champaign) in the Alma Mater Room. All campus community members are welcome to attend the awards event. Please sign up to help with a headcount for light refreshments and snacks.

Energy conservation initiatives such as the ECIP are at the core of Illinois’ commitment to its land-grant university mission. The Climate Leadership Commitment pledges the Urbana campus will be carbon neutral as soon as possible, which requires all students, faculty and staff to work together to implement a dynamic, multidisciplinary approach to sustainability at the U. of I.
