Daphne Hulse was recently appointed as the organization’s new zero waste coordinator.
An F&S strategic goal is to develop and expand environmental management programs to conserve resources and reduce waste and pollution. To help F&S reach those sustainability objectives, Daphne Hulse was recently appointed as the organization’s new zero waste coordinator.
In this role, Hulse will act as the primary point of contact for recycling, composting, and waste reduction services and strategies. She will oversee the campus waste management and recycling program by leading efforts to track and analyze operational data to identify areas for project planning and policy development. She will also ensure compliance with providing updates for State Waste Reduction Plan reporting and perform reviews of waste service rates at the U of I.
Hulse received her bachelor’s degree in environmental science from Purdue University, where she focused on communication-based approaches to local-level climate change action. In Indiana, she founded the first collegiate chapter of Citizens’ Climate Lobby and worked with Climatepedia, an educational nonprofit organization, to facilitate climate science curriculum within an international group of working professionals.
Hulse strives to advance projects addressing composting, food literacy, and circularity, which ensures that products are manufactured to be reused or adapted to avoid waste and recycling streams. She is excited to collaborate with students, faculty, and staff to support educational initiatives highlighting the university’s recycling process and emphasizing how individual efforts can make a difference and ultimately help achieve zero waste on the Urbana campus.
