Bright orange Block I parking plates will replace each coin-fed meter on campus. The MobileMeter app is still required to purchase time in the space.
These steel Block I’s were fabricated on a plasma table, turned on a lathe, and slotted by a milling machine by F&S machinists. An F&S vendor located in Charleston colored the Block I’s orange with a powder coating. The F&S sign shop added the zone and space number. A first wave of 528 were made for installation, starting in March 2024. Another 1,100 have been prepared and installation will go through Spring 2025.
The construction-laborer shop manually installs each one. Eventually, all old coin operated meters will be replaced by these across all of campus.
