Campus Steam Update – January 27, 2025
Low Steam Pressure Following Temporary Outage
Abbott Power Plant experienced a temporary boiler outage this morning, resulting in lower than typical steam pressure. Facility personnel are requested to check building systems and equipment, such as autoclaves, to ensure they are functioning properly. We are aware that the lack of steam pressure has affected several buildings, and there have been reports of insufficient steam/heat. We are actively working to resolve the issue, and normal steam pressure is expected to return over the next couple of hours. For questions or assistance, contact the F&S Service Office fsserviceoffice@illinois.edu, 217-333-0340.

Campus Steam Update – December 13, 2024
Abbott Power Plant, a cogeneration facility which supplies most of the electricity and high-pressure steam to campus, lost access to an important fuel line (natural gas) early on the morning of Friday, December 13. This caused a boiler at Abbott to discontinue operation for some time. The fuel line has been re-established; however, time will be needed to build steam pressure back to typical levels. There may be cooler temperatures in some campus buildings and some specialized lab equipment that utilizes high-pressure steam may not work.
Updates will be sent directly from the F&S Service Office to my.FS Portal users and campus emergency contacts.
