Engineering Open House – Closure and Shuttle Maps

Apr 07, 2026 | 8:13 am

Two street closures will be in effect to support EOH activities beginning Thursday night.

Terry Blake encounters bolts of electricity as he presents his Tesla Coil Concert event on the Bardeen Engineering Quad for the Engineering Open House. Technical note: Image consists of multiple exposures stacked into one image. The show features two giant Tesla coils, which generate bolts of electricity that fly through the air while simultaneously creating musical pitches. The coils, a heavily modified version of the device Nikola Tesla invented to wirelessly transport electricity, generate white-hot plasma. Protected in a suit of layered chain mail, Blake directs the bolts of electricity to fly across space using a variety of props, including neon tubes that glow like light sabers, flame throwers, and even a wooden 2x4 that quickly catches fire from the onslaught of electrical power.

Please be advised that several street closures will support activities for the Engineering Open House (EOH) this Friday and Saturday, April 10 and 11. The closures will begin Thursday, April 9, at 7 p.m., ahead of the event.

The 104th Engineering Open House, “Forging the Future”, will present 210 exhibits and 19 special events. Programming will be located indoors and outdoors throughout the North Quad, Bardeen Quad, and nearby buildings. Event maps and parking information are available on the EOH website.
