Each summer, F&S and the Parking Department perform a bicycle roundup to clear bike racks and accommodate new riders for the fall semester. All bikes were tagged with an orange sticker after Commencement. Abandoned bikes were identified when owners did not remove the sticker during the designated collection period.
If your bike was impounded during this year’s roundup, you can retrieve it now. The deadline for reclaiming your bicycle is Friday, September 26. After that date, all unclaimed bicycles will be donated to the Campus Bike Center and The Bike Project of Urbana-Champaign.
What You Will Need to Do
To reclaim your bike, you must take the following steps:
- Email Bike at Illinois with your bicycle information, including where you left it, the make/model of the bicycle, color, and serial number (if possible).
- Indicate if the bicycle was registered or not. If it was, you will need to provide a registration sticker ID.
- Include a picture of your bicycle, preferably when unlocked, to show ownership.
Once a bicycle is identified in the current inventory, you will receive instructions for pickup. If the bike was not registered, you will be required to register it in accordance with the University Bicycle Ordinance ($10 fee). A $40 retrieval fee also applies, which helps support the abandoned bike collection process.
