University staff, alumni, and students receive membership and driving rate discounts.
The university partners with the cities of Champaign and Urbana, as well as the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District, to bring self-service, on-demand car-sharing to the community through Zipcar. Members can reserve a car, use the Zipcar app to enter it, and drive away. When your trip is complete, simply return the Zipcar vehicle to the pickup spot.
Zipcar membership is discounted for university employees and students ($35 per year) and university alums ($55 per year). The driving rates are discounted as well. All trips include gas, secondary insurance, 24/7 roadside help, and up to 180 miles daily. Transportation & Automotive Services (TAS) includes the Car Pool, Garage, and Transportation. TAS provides fleet management services for the entire campus, including vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair, vehicle rental, oversight for campus vehicle purchases and operations, and transportation services ranging from material delivery to snow removal.
