To facilitate construction crane installation for the Illini Hall Replacement Project, John Street, between Wright Street and Sixth Street, will be closed Monday, November 24, through Wednesday, November 26, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
During that period, the north sidewalk and portions of the south sidewalk on John Street will also be closed; however, access to adjacent facilities and businesses will be maintained at all times. On-street metered parking spaces will also be temporarily unavailable.
Additionally, pedestrian traffic on Wright Street will be rerouted to the east side only from Green Street. The covered walkway on the west side of the street, from Green Street to just before John Street, will be closed to help reduce the potential for congestion near the site entrance and construction perimeter.
Bus and local traffic will remain active on Wright Street as the work is taking place. Please be advised that MTD is reducing its typical service effective Saturday, November 22, to coincide with the U. of I.’s fall break. Check MTD service schedules and routes for updates.
More campus street, sidewalk, and pathway closures are available on the F&S website. For specific, university-related inquiries, contact Transportation Systems Manager Stacey DeLorenzo sdeloren@illinois.edu, 217-300-1750. Thank you for your continued patience in and around construction zones and for giving contractors sufficient room to deliver and connect these crane components.
